It was with great pleasure to be invited back to school today! Alfie and I visited my old school Rydal Penrhos, Colwyn Bay to share our stories with the pupils.
We started the day with a lovely walk in Pwllycrochan woods just above Rydal and then headed down for morning session at the school. The day started in the library with the reception class and years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 throughout the morning.
Each session began with me doing a little introduction to Alfie and I and then asking the children about their animals. There were lots of pet-lovers and the pupils had all manner of four legged friends including donkeys, piggies, hamsters, bearded dragons, geckos, cats and of course dogs.
I read from both my books sharing the lovely illustrations that John McNally and Lisa Williams created for me. Once the story-time had finished, the pupils were asked to colour in a drawing of Alfie Doodle in his Christmas jumper.
Whilst they were contentedly doing the colouring, I walked back to the car to get the star himself, who was taking a snooze… like a proper celebrity! Alfie then greeted all the pupils two at time, he thoroughly loved all the attention and spent most of his time on his back having a tummy rub.
Alfie’s work was done by midday so I took him home for a well deserved walk in the woods. I then returned to the school for their book fair to sign copies of my books. I’ll be there again tomorrow and Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm for anyone that missed me.
I’d like to say a big thank you to the teachers (in particular Mrs. Culver) and pupils of the school for making me feel so welcome. Alfie Doodle and I loved our back to school trip.
Rydal have featured Alfie and I on their website including quote from the Deputy Head, Alison Hind:
“Everyone got an enormous amount from their visit and they really loved hearing about the different stories Natalie has written, and I would like to thank her on behalf of everyone at the Prep School for visiting us.”
